The procedure is performed under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and assist optimizing surgical conditions. Dr Gus will make incisions in strategic locations, often starting in the hairline at the temples, continuing around the ear, and ending in the lower scalp. Through these incisions, he will lift and reposition the underlying tissues and muscles, remove or redistribute excess fat, and trim away excess skin. This process tightens the facial structure and smooths the skin for a rejuvenated appearance. The surgery generally takes several hours, depending on the extent of correction needed.
Recovery from a deep plane lift requires dedicated downtime, though patients often experience less bruising and skin tightness than with older, skin-pulling techniques.
Peak swelling and bruising around days 2–4. Numbness around the ears, cheeks and neck is common. Tightness is often more noticeable than pain. Haemostatic net remonved on day 2. Sutures removed between day 5 and 10. Sleep elevated and avoid bending, straining and exercise.
Major improvement. Bruising changes colour and largely resolves. Swelling decreases substantially but is still noticeable, especially in the morning and around the jaw/neck. The face may look slightly “over-tight” or unfamiliar. Many patients are comfortable going out with makeup/hair covering incisions by 10–14 days, although they may not yet want to attend an important social event. Walking is encouraged; strenuous activity is still avoided.
Beginning to look much more natural. Most obvious bruising is gone. Residual swelling, firmness and numbness persist, particularly beneath the chin, along the jawline and around the ears. Small areas of lumpiness or asymmetry from differential swelling are common. Most patients can comfortably return to normal work and social activities. Light exercise can usually start if healing is uncomplicated.
Approximately 70–80% of visible recovery in many patients. The face generally looks presentable and increasingly natural. Incisions are still pink but easier to conceal. Neck tightness and swelling continue to soften. Sensation may start returning with tingling, itching or occasional brief “electric” sensations. Exercise can generally be increased gradually.
Residual swelling becomes subtle. Most people would not know the patient has recently had surgery. Jawline and neck definition continue improving as deeper swelling resolves. Some firmness, numbness and tightness are still normal. Scars may temporarily appear more pink or raised as they enter the active phase of scar maturation.
Largely recovered for everyday life. Most normal activities and exercise can usually be resumed if healing has been uncomplicated. The result looks substantially more natural, although it is not the final result. Mild swelling, particularly under the chin or along the neck, can persist. Numbness and firmness can take several months to completely resolve.

No drains are place, instead a haemostatic net is applied which is a temporary system of multiple transcutaneous quilting sutures placed through the skin and secured to the underlying tissues at the end of surgery. It’s purpose is to eliminate dead space and compress the elevated skin flap against the underlying tissues, thereby reducing postoperative bleeding, haematoma formation, and fluid accumulation.

Most patients return to light office work in 2 weeks. Strenuous activities, heavy lifting and cardio must be avoided for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
